Tour Operators Looking to the East

More and more travel companies are interpreting Eastern Europe as the next big thing in tourism, a report from PhoCusWright says. An upcoming study is set to report on emerging holiday destinations such as Poland and Russia, and put the spotlight on what they have in store for travelers.

According to PhoCusWright, the travel industry intelligence specialists, these destinations are just ripe for the picking, but the only thing holding the back is a lack of information for travel operators to put together definitive packages for their customers.

Therefore, PhoCusWright are looking for help as they embark on a new project entitled “Russia and Eastern Europe: Assessing the Online Travel Opportunity. The aim of the project is to size up the potential of these emerging markets and discover opportunities that tour operators can put together in the region.

Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and the Czech Republic will all be targeted in the project, with the first three undergoing in-depth analysis.

More than 50 interviews are planned for the study, with local tourism chiefs, tour operators, intermediaries and technology providers; it is hoped that from this research they will be able to gauge the size of the market accurately and discover new trends.

The questions they hope to answer are vital to the future success of these countries in emerging as big players in the travel market. They intent to discover how big the market is for the online leisure and business travel industries, the risks and challenges involved with each market, who the key players are locally, and how these markets compare with established regions such as North American and Western Europe.

The study will also delve into how big an impact technology has on travel distribution throughout Easter Europe.
