Tokaji Wine Festival 2011 in Full Swing

The Tokaji Wine Festival 2011 (Tokaji Borok Fesztiválja) opened yesterday, with a very interesting programme, featuring folk art shows, craft fairs, traditional cuisine, and, of course, a varied offering of wines from over 27 municipalities.

The festival lasts till Sunday, May 29, 2011, and continues with live concerts, dance, literary events, street ball, marionette shows, and wine tours. There programme includes wine tasting and tours of traditional wineries, such as Erzsébet Pince, Sauska Pincészet, Benkő Borház, Himesudvar Pincészet and Dobogó Pincészet. Each winery offers a tasting of its own wines, accompanied by various culinary delicacies specific to the region.

Among the artists performing at this edition of the festival we mention Borvirág Együttes, Fabula Zenekar, KOLO Együttes, the Art School Dance ensemble, and many others. The festival is an occasion for tourists to understand local cultures and tradition, and to experience the true spirit of the region.

Tokaj is a historical town in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Hungary, and the heart of the famous Tokaj-Hegyalja wine district where the world famous Tokaji wine is produced. Aside the wine festival, Tokaj features many tourist attractions, including Kopasz-hegy (Bald Mountain), the Tokaj Museum, various tours in the region, scenic vistas, and much more.
