Every August, for 10 days, the Croatian street festival, Spancirfest, transforms Varaždin, Croatia into a massive international community of partygoers. Continuing in its 11-year tradition, nearly more than 1.5 million participants will come 24 August 2012 – 02 September 2012 to hear and see works over 10,000 musical performers, street artist and various buskers from across the world. Past performers have included Sasha Macek and Phat Phillie, Cavaliers, Morrissey, Natali, Mostar Sevdah Reunion, La Cumbia Chicharra, and Perpetuum Jazzile.
The iconic festival is so ingrained in the culture, that participants are said to measure time by the ending and upcoming dates of the event. The event staff note: “Špancirfest turns this city into the Capital of Music, the Kingdom of Theatre and the Empire of Beauty created by the hand of the artist.”
The festival is known for its free spirited atmosphere and participants’ positive energy. Each year the festival aims to be more engaging inviting attendees to also be co-creators and Spancirfest ambassadors.
