In hotel news from Thailand, the new Sofitel So Bangkok, scheduled to open in Bangkok in 2012 will boast maybe the world’s coolest digital features. According to a press release by the chain this weekend, Sofitel has partnered with DirectStreams to afford hotel guests incredibly rich Apple-based connectivity amenities.

Sofitel So Bangkok will not only be a much needed new quality accomodation in the city, but from this weekend#s news, the most digitally aware and rewarding in all Asia. The company has employed one of the world’s foremost software solutions outfits, DirectStreams, to create a digital entertainment and communication feature unlike any most hotel guests have seen. Apple based digital solutions for leisure and work are being incorporated throughout the new hotel.

Current Sofitel Bangkok as an example of the new hotel's look

Employing the cutting edge of technology, Apple Mac mini and iPad, Sofitel So Bangkok offers guests an integrated connectivity solution custom designed for the hotel guest. This system goes a long way past the hotel Wi-Fi connection in the lobby, believe me. Each Mac mini will operate as the multimedia hub for each guests TV, radio, movie, and music enjoyment.

Guests will be able to use their personal iPod, iPhone, and iPad in an integrated fashion with the hub. The Mac mini also allows for business uses and DirectStreams software adds security by wiping clean any traces of guest business use. But the technology goes much farther than plucking a PC in your suite.

The collateral functionality of this news system is where Sofitel differentiates with their interpretation of digital hospitality. Sofitel So Bangkok guests will be able to surf the in-room service directory, or afford themselves a panoramic view of Lumpini Park, and a lot of connective elements all in between. The platform even extends outside the guest room and throughout the Sofitel property. Meeting rooms  to the ballroom, and then back to the guest suite, the designers have thought far ahead on this hotel amenity.

Hotel General Manager Gilles Cretallaz had this to add about the new hotel and its features:

“It’s all part of what the Sofitel So brand represents – the recognition of a new generation of urban hotels that are technologically innovative and design oriented. It is also a very ‘green’ concept as with more on screen, the less paper used and the less waste.”
