Work on the coastal front at Skaleta near Rethymno is expected to resume on November 2, after the summer tourist season, with additional safety measures being added to the seawall project.
The supplementary contract is worth €62,885.92 including VAT, on top of the original €390,136.41 contract signed in November 2025.
Seawall Strengthened Against Wave Action
The additional work covers the section between the Ilios tavern and the chapel of Agios Nikolaos.
The new safety measures include strengthening the seawall foundation against wave-induced undermining, filling the space behind the wall with concrete-filled stone, and installing railings along the wall and the staircase leading to the beach.
Work Paused During Tourist Season
Construction was temporarily suspended to avoid disrupting local businesses and tourism during the busy summer period.
The project is scheduled to restart on November 2, 2026, when tourist activity begins to ease.
For visitors, the completed project will provide a safer, more functional stretch of the Skaleta coastline, including improved beach access and greater protection for the coastal road and infrastructure.
