SITA Airport IT Trends Released

It’s no secret mobile adaptations for business and pleasure are gaining more and more momentum. News from SITA, via their Airport IT Trends Survey, tells of airports turning to intelligent tech, mobile apps, social media, and especially geo-location apps to improve passenger experiences.

According to the survey, air transport information technology (IT) and communications specialist were asked to tell their views on selected topics. Some 91 operators, across 173 airports worldwide, reported improving passenger experience as the number one goal of IT professionals. SITA is quoted as saying:

“An example of changes passengers will see is a rapid increase in mobile and social media apps delivering a more personalized customer experience.”

First launched in 2004, the survey is focused on senior IT professionals at key airports worldwide. Key trends identified in the current report included:

  • IT & Telecom priorities: cautious on IT spend in 2012, but the outlook for 2013 is more positive
  • Passenger communication: strategiesmoving to mobile apps and social media
  • Self service: growing and evolving
  • Business Intelligence: adoption of geo-location to improve passenger journey
