Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:HOT) signed an agreement with Tanriverdi Mensucat Sanayii A.S. to open a Sheraton Hotel in Samsun, Turkey, in late 2014. This will be the 11th hotel in Turkey owned by Starwood, and the chain’s first in Samsun.
Samsun is a major Black Sea port, and an important tourist destination on the north coast of Turkey. It has several interesting tourist attractions, including the Batı Park, featuring a recently constructed “Amazon Village” museum to honor the mythological Amazons; a short walk up the hill from Batı Park you will find tumuli, containing tombs dated between 300BC and 30BC; the Archaeological and Atatürk Museum and others.
With Sheraton Samsun Hotel, Starwood introduces the first five-star hotel in the city, which will attract more luxury and business travelers to this destination:
“Sheraton Samsun Hotel will be the first international five-star, and also the largest, hotel in Samsun, marking a milestone in the city,” said Recep Tanriverdi, Chairman of the Board, Tanriverdi Group of Companies.
According to the official announcement, Sheraton Samsun Hotel will feature 200 guest rooms and 20 suites, all with scenic views of the Black Sea. The 29-storey hotel will be the largest hotel and the tallest building in Samsun. The hotel is being designed by Turkish architectural firm, Piramit Mimarlik, together with Istanbul-based interior designer, Kreatif Mimarlik.
In addition, Sheraton Samsun Hotel will offer guests an all-day dining venue, a specialty restaurant, a lobby bar, as well as a rooftop bar and lounge. For business travelers, the plans include a grand ballroom, 10 meeting rooms and a business center.
