Search and Rescue Operation Underway in Ammoudara for Missing 67-Year-Old Surfer

A major search operation is underway in Ammoudara, Crete, for a missing 67-year-old local surfer whose board was recovered from the sea.

A large-scale search and rescue operation is currently underway off the coast of Ammoudara, in the Municipality of Malevizi, following the disappearance of a 67-year-old Cretan man who failed to return from a surfing session.

The alarm was raised early by a relative who alerted authorities after losing contact with the man. The Hellenic Coast Guard immediately coordinated a joint search effort, deploying personnel to sweep both the shoreline and the surrounding sea.

During the initial phase of the search, responders located several of the missing man’s personal belongings that had been left on the beach. Shortly after, search teams recovered a surfboard floating in the water, believed to belong to the 67-year-old.

Coast Guard units, local emergency services, and volunteers are continuing to comb the land and sea areas around Ammoudara under challenging coastal conditions. Further updates will be provided as the operation proceeds.

We will update this story as further information becomes available.
