Photo Reportage: Schweicher Karneval 2012

Princess Irmgard I and Prince Martin I of Schweich ended a beautiful Karneval parade today, after two hours of free candy and free schnaps for curious spectators lining up the Richtstraße (Schwecih’s main street). This was the best display of costumes and parade floats in years, and we should know: after all, Argophilia Travel News is based in Schweich.

For those of you who don’t know much about this part of the world, Schweich is an important stop on the Römische Weinstraße (Roman Wine Route). A small municipality, 12 kilometers driving distance from Trier, Germany’s oldest city, Schweich is what we like to call our small slice of paradise. With one of the largest hot air balloon fiestas in Germany taking place every year in August, and a short drive from Luxembourg, Schweich is a desirable destination for so many purposes. And it’s also growing: a new living district is being built as we speak, while the center is upgraded with even more modern accommodation, shops, and eateries.

The following images show just why Schweich is such a wonderful place to be, if not year-round (for some), at least every Karneval:
