Knights and Damsels at Savicenta Medieval Festival 2012

Taking place this weekend in the idyllic Istrian town from Friday 10 August to Sunday 12, Savicenta Medieval Fesival 2012 promises to delight its visitors with ancient arts and crafts, traditional food, old customs and beautiful parades, all designed to revive Savicenta’s medieval past.

Hundreds of costumed participants alongside talented artists will recreate a colorful period when the city was inhabited by damsels, archers and brave knights wearing shining armors.

The city’s renaissance square and its medieval Morosini-Grimani castle will perfectly match the festival’s atmosphere, being the ideal setting for knightly duels and clerical inquisition scenes.

Moreover, throughout the entire weekend, various shows and demonstrations will take place on the streets of Savicenta in order to represent in the most vividly way the daily routine of the medieval period.

 

Highlights of the festival include the top quality spectacles performed by the famous Knights of Zelingrad – the largest and most accredited reenactment group in Croatia. With an impressive collection of medieval weapons and props, rich expertize in history and very well developed scenarios, Knights of Zelingrad always manage to display various aspects of medieval life in a very accurate way, being internationally renowned for their beautiful spectacles. Therefore, guests will be treated with plenty of duels and battles with catapults and fireballs.

Another attraction of Savicenta Festival 2012 is the medieval fair, where visitors will have the opportunity to discover the secrets of various old crafts, to learn how to handle a bow and arrow or to enjoy the delicious traditional food.

Savicenta, also known as Svetvinčenat or San Vincenti (Sanvincenti) is one of the most charming towns in the center of Istria. Home of numerous historical sites, the Croatian city has only been discovered recently, but its medieval appearance and its lovely surroundings of evergreen forests and vineyards has made it an ideal setting   for various festivals that take place here each year such as: Savicenta Medieval Festival, Festival of Dance and Non-verbal Theater or Young Wine Festival in October.
