Zurich-Santorini capacity rises 3% as the island seeks to strengthen its Swiss market
The Municipality of Thira (Santorini) has announced the launch of a four-month joint marketing campaign with Edelweiss Air, a leading Swiss airline and a proud member of the Lufthansa Group. The initiative aims to strengthen the island’s presence in the Swiss market and boost high-quality tourism.
Edelweiss Air has proven to be a stable and reliable partner for Santorini. This year, seat capacity on the Zurich-Santorini route has increased by 3%, reaching approximately 14,600 seats, while maintaining a strong average load factor of 76%. Building on this success, the municipality is strategically investing in the further expansion of the airline’s flight operations to the island.
The core pillars of the four-month campaign include:
- Exclusive B2B Networking: A dedicated “Edelweiss Hub Event” at Zurich Airport, designed to connect Santorini representatives with top-tier Swiss travel agents and tour operators.
- Targeted Digital Promotion: Featured promotion of Santorini on the official Edelweiss Air website, with an estimated reach of over 500,000 views.
- Premium Media Placements: A comprehensive online banner campaign across popular and highly regarded Swiss media outlets, including Watson.ch and NZZ (Neue Zürcher Zeitung).
- Social Media Activation: Coordinated social media actions by the airline to highlight the unique cultural, culinary, and scenic experiences the island has to offer.
Santorini officials noted that the partnership reflects Santorini’s ongoing strategy to secure targeted, high-value international exposure through established airline partners.
