Sabre Launch Travel Industry-Specific App Store

A recent report from Business Wire has revealed that the Sabre Travel Network is planning to make the first ever B2B app store specific to the travel industry. Billed as the Sabre Red App Centre, it hopes to become the go-to place for all travel industry app buyers to connect with application developers.

Sabre Red App Store

A well known technology supplier in the travel industry, Sabre Travel Network has a long history of providing innovative shopping platforms for tour operators, travel agents and related organizations, and it’s hope this latest solution will provide further benefit to its users.

According to the Sabre Travel’s Greg Webb:

“The Sabre Red App Centre will open up a new world of possibilities for the travel industry and bring endless opportunities for creative and original applications to be brought to the market quickly. Our agency customers will be able to improve their business and deliver enhanced services for travelers by tapping into the collective creativity of Red App developers from all over the world.”

One positive about it is that, for existing users of the Sabre Red Workspace, a platform that allows travel agents to manage their travel bookings, any apps they buy can be integrated directly into a user’s workspace thanks to the Eclipse Rich Client Platform’s plug-in capabilities. The result is that for Red Workspace users at least, their lives should be made a whole lot simpler.

Sabre Red also claim that their new app store will be a boon for both authorized developers and others who are interested in converting their existing apps into “Red Apps” – applications compatible with Red Workspace – and then market them to more than 150,000 travel industry professionals around the world who use Red Workspace. In order to make applications compatible with Red Workspace, developers must design their apps using the Red App Developer Tool.

Sabre Travel also announced that they will host a competition open to all Red Apps developers later this year, with a prize being awarded for the most innovative Red App design of the year.
