Prague Explosion May Have Left Some Trapped

A powerful explosion in the center of Prague yesterday has injured scores of people and may have left many trapped beneath rubble. The explosion, believed to be from a gas leak, was powerful enough for tourists packing the Charles Bridge felt the explosion. Police say the explosion appears to be from a natural gas leak rather than some terrorist of other act of violence.

Buildings hundreds of meters from the center of the explosion on  the country’s National Theatre had windows blown out, and glass and debris littered the streets of Prague’s Old Town as police cordoned off the area yesterday.

Today officials say several may still be trapped in the debris, but no further word on the actual cause of the blast is forthcoming as of this writing. According to the official reports, most injuries sustained in the event were relatively minor, but three people did sustain serious injuries. Police are still searching the rubble using dogs to try and detect trapped civilians.
