Prague and Budapest Among Cheapest European Destinations, Survey Says

The Eastern European capitals of Prague and Budapest are among the least expensive destinations in Europe based on their lodging costs. A new survey from CheapHotels.org unearthed this finding then it compared hotel rates for 30 main destinations in Europe. The time period spanning June through August 2012 served as the basis of comparison.

In Prague, summer travelers had to spend, on average, 45 Euros per night for the cheapest available 2-star hotel room. That price ranks the city at position 27 out of 30. In Budapest, the situation was even better for visitors. There, the average hotel rate was only 33 Euros nightly, ranking the Hungarian capital the second least expensive of all those examined. In fact, only Athens trailed Budapest at an average of 23 Euros for an overnight stay.

Topping the list as the most expensive European locale was Stockholm. Summer travelers paid an average of 110 Euros to stay in the most affordable 2-star hotel room in the Swedish capital. Taking the number two and three spots were Edinburgh and Venice with average overnight rates of 109 Euros and 103 Euros, respectively.

The following table ranks the 10 most expensive destinations in Europe based on their lodging costs. The prices shown reflect each city’s average rate for the cheapest available double room (minimum 2-star hotel) during the time period spanning June through August 2012.
