Pag Art Festival 2011 Kicks Off Today

Beginning today, the small renaissance town of Pag plays host to a festival of classical music, organized by Lovro Pogorelić, a world-renowned Croatian pianist.

The Pag Art Festival was founded in 1999 and it has already become a tradition to have it opened by Lovro’s recital. However, this year, the festival will be opened by Krešimir Bedek, with a guitar concert. Lovro Pogorelich’s performance will follow on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011.

The program also includes a concert featuring violinist Nikita Borisoglebsky with Lovro Pogorelich on Friday, August 5; then pianist Dmitry Gordin accompanying a poetry reading by Natalia Vorobjova Hržić on Monday, August 8; soprano Emőke Barath, violinist Maria Grokhotova and Olga Filippova at harpsichord, on Wednesday, August 10; young musicians Dorotea Racz at cello, and pianist Dmitry Samogray on Friday, August 12; and finally, the closing of the festival with a guitar concert by Robert Belinić. You can find the full program, in Croatian and English, here.

All events begin at 9 pm local hours, and are held at the St. Francis Church in the town of Pag.
