On the Beach, a leading UK OTA, says this Summer may be a banner season for UK beach combers headed to the sunny Med. In a press release today, the company points to increased traffic for beaches in Spain, Greece, and in Turkey. Not everything about slumping economies is bad, not when the deals get too good to be true.
Citing a report by Pegasus Solutions, On the Beach reveals an increase of more than 8 percent in hotel bookings for May, versus for the previous year. Alistair Daly, Marketing Director of On the Beach, had this to offer:
“May was a good month for the travel industry as people were very keen to get the holiday period off to a sunny start. We saw a particularly large amount of our customers focus on budget holidays to seaside resorts in the Mediterranean. This is great news as after a long, cold winter many Brits were clearly in desperate need of a dose of sunshine.”
According to Daly, it looks like June and July may be even more positive where UK outbound travel is concerned. One reason, he suggests, is that UK travelers are keen to take advantage of deals and money saving opportunities across the board. Cheap flights, budgeted hotel rooms, nearly every aspect of travel to some destinations has been slashed price wise. The value this Summer, actually exceeds many other seasons. The Med is perhaps more popular than ever.
For those unfamiliar, On the Beach is a fairly “cutting edge” budget travel booking site. For a bit of an Argo Travel test, I just “snap” selected one of the vacation destinations to rate their deals. Looking at Majorca (above), what On the Beach comes up with, especially for a quick trip decision, seems pretty dog gone fantastic. Calas De Mallorca, atop the cliffs, affords the most spectacular views, not to mention great hotel amenities – and for £701.58 – for two people, 7 nights, plus the flights? Now that’s a budget vacation.
