Olive Green Hotel: Greece’s First Truly Eco-Friendly Stay

The brand new Olive Green Hotel has just opened in Heraklion, Crete.

Billed as the “smartest ” and most eco – friendly hotel in Greece, the sparkling and modern property was totally transformed by the Karatarakis Hotels SA Company from a 1960s Heraklion landmark in the city’s center.

A multi-million dollar transformation by the hotel company, in collaboration with architect Nikos Mourelos, and the concept creation and internal decorative approach of Alina Tsolakakis, leaves visitors to Crete’s capital with a stunning stay possibility.  The design of the Olive Green stands out as a perfect alignment between nature, tradition and technology, that merges Cretan traditionial hospitaliry, with sheer modernity.

The only “eco-smart” hotel on the island, Olive Green is 100% environmentally friendly. Features like tablet controlled lighting, cooling, heating, music, and service requests set the new hotel apart as well.  The ecological philosophy that is illustrated in the Olive Green name endemnify what Crete stands for, prisine nature, purity, and wildness. The hotel also impliments this alignment with nature via principles of renewable energy – based, reuse/recycle operational system which utilizes solar panels and other innovative methods that  aim to promote sustainable development.

Oliver Green has 48 original rooms and suites designed based on individual-space-management construction plan, featuring luxurious aesthetics and comfort in line with state-of-art-the technology. Five color themes further differentiate the rooms basedon places of interests depicted in a photo on the headboards of the beds.  The room motifs were especially created for the Olive Green Hotel by the talented photographer Christo Drazo . The images in the pictures are places within an hour away from Heraklion and include the lake of “Zaros”,  “Matala” beach, a “Mitato” (stone built shepherd – shelter) in snowy mountains of “Psiloritis”, the starry sky in “Asterousia” mountains, a stone alley in “Kapetaniana” village and views from “Elounda” town to “Spinalonga” island .

Also in line with the hotel’s high tech features, guest can scan the QR codes on the photos to download and save information for each destination, directions to get there, hot spots, interesting restaurants, beaches, archaeological sites.

The Cretan syle hospitality of the hotel is further exemplified in a unique and inclusive dining experience provided at the “626” All Day Lounge & City Garden (image above), the brand new, trendy cafe restaurant bar, next to the entrance of the hotel.
