November on Crete: The Month in Stunning Instagram Shares

A deserted Agia Pelagia Beach

It’s almost Winter on Crete. Gone are the throng of visitors seeking paradise from far off places. The blazing sun that cooked in summer now smiles down kindly on Greece’s biggest island. In November on Crete, the seas are still warm, mimicking full Summer in nations of the Northern latitudes.

So, Crete is the perfect place to walk that secluded beach or to hear the echo of your own voice in the mountains. The Instagram shares below should provoke some jealousy, which we hope will bring you to visit this amazing island.

Located about 35km south of Rethymno and 10km east of Plakias, the gorge and the Beach of Preveli are amazing places to visit any time of year. As you can see, there are only a couple of people on the beach as of November 9th. Hey, time for me to visit!

18 hours ago the Gramvousa and Balos cruise lays at anchor, but there’s not a herd of sun worshippers in sight? Maybe we should see if the schedule still permits passengers? I have not been to Balos in years. Yikes! Looks like the season is over, I’ll have to drive the treacherous Balos road.

I almost feel sad for since she was all alone at Elafonisi doing her Yoga the other day. She’s proud of her bikini body and says so in this share. Private and group yoga classes on one of the world’s most stunning beaches, I need to rope Mihaela into this.

Rethymno. What can I say? There is no place quite like this little Venetian gem. Situated on the North shore of Crete, the town has more charm per square meter than any place I know of. And LOOK! It’s deserted. Now you can get some uncluttered Crete Filoxenia!

Kommos Beach, not far from Kalamaki Beach in the South of Heraklion Prefecture is also near Kamilari, Matala, and Phaistos. Sitting beneath an ancient Minoan coastal palace, the beach is one of Crete’s “natural” spots where clothes are not in vogue. In November on Crete, all such places are virtually deserted. Maybe I drive there today and find a nice taverna to have dinner and a sunset at? Jealous yet?

Okay, there are a few hot spots still cooking on Crete. Here, a traffic jam forms on road headed into the mountains.

Sunset over Aposelemis Dam, which takes the runoff from the majestic Lassithi Plateau, it’s breathtakingly beautiful. The dam was a huge project that was only completed about 7 years ago. If you’ve never visited this part of Crete, November on Crete is just amazing.

More heavy traffic near Elafonisi in the far West of Crete. Take care in these regions, not to get into a collision with these friendly critters. Did I mention, Cretan goats are just fun to play with? We have a friend in Amari named Mickey.

A stroll in the hills above Tympaki, one of my favorite areas of Crete, is just good for the soul. Do you wish you were here yet?
