Mozirski Gaj Is Getting Ready for the Spring

Mozirski Gaj is a horticulture park with ethnographic elements, like a granary, water mills, and farmhouses from different regions of Slovenia. The park started with the landscaping works on a terrain filled with overgrown woods and used (illegally) as a garbage dumping site in 1974. At the initiative of the Mozirski Tourist Association and local fishing families, bee-keepers, horticultural societies, and gardeners, the reclaimed woods transformed into a park with a man-made pond and various ethnographic attractions.

Today, Mozirski Gaj is one of the most beautiful parks in the country, a working garden, with poetic blossoms from spring to fall, Japanese garden, an extensive garden of herbs and medicinal plants, and an apiary decorated with paintings depicting the center of Mozirje and illustrations of folk tales from the region.

The park is ready for the spring. It will open its doors to the first visitors in mid-April with the exposition of tulips, a fantastic display of blooms of all colors. According to the park, there are over 300000 tulips in bloom every spring. Located on the right bank of the Savinja River, Mozirski Gaj attracts thousands of visitors every month. It provides a peaceful oasis of color and fragrance in Mozirje, and it is also a great venue for weddings, as the flower beds provide a beautiful backdrop for such special events.

Mozirski Gaj aims to raise awareness about horticulture and gardening, organizing a variety of educational programs for children and schools. Guided tours of the park are available on prior notice (you have to book three days in advance emailing them at info@mozirskigaj.com or calling +386 3 583 27 19 in season). Although the park closes at the end of October, they reopen for the Slovenian Christmas Fairytale in December, with the grove glowing in over 500,000 lights and rich programs for young and old, mulled wine and delicious snacks.
