Moscow Leads Russia for Spontaneous Bookings

According to a special study from Booking.com Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan top the list of cities where spontaneity lead to tourism visits and bookings.  The online booking service told RIA Novosti that last minute travel to these cities was most popular among tourists who prefer spontaneous travel.

Booking.com conducted the research specially for RIA Novosti to discover which cities users of online bookings often make a hotel reservation at the last minute. Data from users of Booking.com’s app was used to gain understanding of the patterns of last minute travelers.

Of course traditionally popular tourist destinations like Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan topped the list, but cities like Nizhny Novgorod, Sochi and others joined Krasnodar, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-don and Adler to fill out a “top” list. Russian tourists these days a far more spontaneous owing to new tech, and especially mobile capabilities.

The latest survey conducted by Booking.com reveal that 89% of respondents from Russia indicated that they are more spontaneous owing to modern technology. The report showed 61% of users turned to their smartphones to make bookings of hotels.

The latest Booking app, now on Android and iOS, allows users with smart devices to book with only two touches of the screen. Also, the Booking.com survey showed that the peak of “spontaneous” reservations by Russian tourists arrives in August.
