Got a Crazy Travel Story? Then You Could Be a Winner in the “Mile High Text Club” Contest

Not long ago we reported on a startup called Toktumi, which recently released an innovative application for iPhone, Line2. Today, the aforementioned protagonist makes waves with a new marketing move, a contest that runs November 16 through December 3, rewarding the “craziest” (i.e. most outrageous) flight stories.

The purpose of the contest, naturally, to promote the Line2 application, the only App that lets you call over WiFi, 3G, or cellular using the same number, and also the ONLY VOIP service in the App Store to offer the ability to send SMS. In fact, the participation in the contest is tied directly with the application, as you will see below.

The Mile High Text Club Contest invites travelers to text their “craziest” (i.e. most outrageous) flight stories to 222-222-2222 to enter to win prizes, including iPod touches, free Line2 service, and a Grand Prize of a weekend holiday shopping trip for two to New York City, including airfare, luxury hotel, lunch with Steven Slater, and a $500 Gift Card. But the contest is opened only to participants who have Line2 on their iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. Those who don’t have it already, can only participate after they download and install Line2 on their Apple-based devices. Some of the texted stories are already listed on site, where anyone can read them and vote on their favorites.

With Line2 and an in-flight WiFi connection you can now text when you’re flying.

“In order to spread the word that Line2 allows airline passengers to text from the sky, we hired one of the most famous guys in the airline business today, Steven Slater,” explained Peter Sisson, Founder and CEO of Toktumi. “After talking with Steven, I realized that despite his dramatic approach – which he regrets – he was making a statement about the need to return civility and common courtesy to flying. He’s a perfect judge for a contest concerning the current state of air travel. He was a flight attendant for 20 years, and both his parents had long careers in the airline business.”

Good luck in the contest, and even if you don’t want to (or can’t) participate, you certainly have a lot to win by getting Line2 for your iPhone, even if that means nothing but reducing your cell bill.
