Matala Street Painting Festival Returns June 14

Matala Street Painting returns on June 14, 2026. Free event for all ages—bring your brushes and paint the streets where hippies once walked.

  • The popular street painting event returns on Sunday, June 14, 2026, in Matala village, Crete.
  • Anyone aged 2 to 102 can participate for free – bring your own brushes.
  • It serves as the colourful warm-up to the annual 3-day Matala Beach Festival.

The Matala Street Painting 2026 is officially set for Sunday, June 14. The streets of the famous hippie village will once again turn into one giant open-air canvas, where painters of all ages and skill levels (yes, from toddlers to grandparents) can leave their colourful mark on the very same roads once walked by the famous artists and bohemians. Expect lots of paint, plenty of Flower Power nostalgia, and that unique “spirit of Matala” that somehow still survives in 2026.

The event kicks off at 9:30 AM and is completely free. You need to bring your own brushes, while the organisers will generously supply the colours. Participation is open to professionals, amateurs, and graffiti artists alike. Still, spaces fill up fast, so calling ahead to reserve your spot is strongly recommended.

This beloved tradition now enters its 15th year. It acts as the vibrant prelude to the three-day Matala Beach Festival that follows. It’s one of those rare events where creativity, community, and a healthy dose of 1960s nostalgia come together without anyone taking themselves too seriously.

How to Join Registration opens at the beginning of June. For more info or to book your painting spot: • Phone: +30 697 684 4953 (mobile) • Landline: +30 28920 45340 • Email: info@matalabeachfestival.org
