Maribor 2012 App Unleashed

For those readers who want to keep up to date with all the latest and events and news regarding The European Capital of Culture Maribor 2012, a great new app has just been released to make the party that much more accessible.

The app, Maribor 2012, lays out the program of events and exhibitions in a thoroughly modern way, whilst providing dozens of great options for those who are planning to turn up. Currently only available on Android phones (sorry iPhone fans!), the app offers tons of functionality – users can look up the latest Maribor 2012 news, browse the events calendar, find event locations on a funky map and read guides on various ongoing exhibitions such as the currently ongoing Lifetouch Project.

As new events come around, the app will be regularly updated with various news bulletins and guides so that both visitors and residents of Maribor can stay ‘in the know’.

Besides the Maribor focus, the app will also be supplemented with content on various other European Capital of Culture projects outside of Maribor, as well as presentations of partnering towns.

The technology employed by this app is really special. For tourists who don’t know their way around Maribor, the app should come in especially handy. Maribor 2012 features geo-location technology, which means users can find themselves on the map and work out where they are in relation to the various venues around town.

Best of all, the designers have also lent heavily on augmented reality technology. For those that don’t know, augmented reality is a funky new technology that allows the app to display information using a combination of physical and digital worlds. The app knows where it is, and it knows where all the events are, plus everything that’s going on – simply point the phone at a building, tap a few buttons and the app will reveal everything that’s happening inside that venue. Pretty smart huh?

The Maribor 2012 app is completely free. To download it, simply visit the Google Play Store and follow the directions there. Have fun!
