The Greek island of Rhodes will be the scene of the inauguration the first ever Escaping South Festival from October 7th thru 12th at the five-star Lindian Village Hotel on the eastern coast of the Dodecanese island.

The six-day festival will celebrate the culture and traditions of the world’s southern regions to highlight the special characteristics that distinguish southern regions of the world. The organizers are hoping to establish a yearly festival to gather the world’s southern regions to Rhodes.

Held under the auspices of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), the South Aegean Region and the Rhodes Municipality, the festival spotlight is on the gastronomy, and artistic traditions of Rhodes, Italy, and France. There will be special cooking workshops, concerts, theater shows, wine, and food tasting happenings, video art, installations, exhibitions, poetry readings, film screenings, plus dance theater performances, among other activities to celebrate the uniqueness of ‘southern traits’.

A highlight of the festival will be a culinary journey by the Greek chef Thanos Feskos, Assistant Head Chef the legendary 3* Michelin Geranium Restaurant. The event will present the tradition, culture, and evolution of South Rhodes in a unique gastronomic story. A cooking workshop with traditional South Rhodes recipes will precede a Greek loukoumi and local liqueur, food, and wine tasting.

Lindian Village, which is owned by the Sviriadis family, opened back in 2005 and is currently running the program “Experience Greece,” which features immersive activities that aim to bring visitors closer to local culture.

In anticipation of the coming festival, organizers invite all photography lovers to participate in the #escapingsouth contest here. The winner is treated to a five-night stay in the hotel’s River Passage Suite complete with private pool and breakfast in bed.
