Labor Day on a Budget: Avoid These Cities

According to a survey by CheapHotels.org, if you have a restricted budget this Labor Day, the following ten American cities rank as the most expensive destinations:

  1. Philadelphia $250
  2. Atlantic City $246
  3. Seattle $244
  4. Milwaukee $228
  5. Boston $209
  6. Virginia Beach $202
  7. Atlanta $182
  8. Charleston $181
  9. New York City $178
  10. Pittsburgh $167

According to the official announcement, the $250 price tag in Philadelphia is more than double what guests would have to spend on a regular weekend.

The prices above reflect the daily rate for each destination’s cheapest available double room (minimum 3-star hotel) for the holiday time period of August 30 through September 2.

Fortunately, there are hotel deals even in these cities, although last minute offers are hard to find.

The ten most affordable US cities, recommended for lower budgets, include:

  1. Houston $73
  2. Salt Lake City $75
  3. Phoenix $80
  4. St. Louis $85
  5. Denver $88
  6. Honolulu $90
  7. Fort Lauderdale $92
  8. Washington DC $95
  9. Las Vegas $96
  10. Orlando $102

These prices were compiled by CheapHotels.org on August 26, based on research conducted on several of the leading hotel-booking sites. Only hotels located in or less than one mile from the city center/beach were considered. The site analyzed 30 of the most popular Labor Day weekend destinations in the USA.
