Celebrating Lithuania: Klaipėda Sea Festival 2011

One of the most spectacular celebrations in Lithuania is the summer festival, Klaipėda Sea Festival (Jūros šventė). The event takes place each year between 26th July and 29th June, and has a tradition of over seventy years.

The festival draws nearly half a million people every year, with a number of cultural events that satisfy each preference. From from folk and classical music, to jazz, country, rock and pop, visitors can enjoy as many local and international bands, emerging indie artists, and professional talent. Jūros šventė is an event that offers a lot of authentic flavors, but more modern trends harmonize with the traditions, making this a unique experience, no one should miss.

Aside music and other forms of live entertainment, Klaipėda Sea Festival offers the opportunity to sample many local dishes, which are made and served right on the street – a good chance for foodies to learn how to prepare some of these exceptional dishes. The beverage that best accompanies these delicacies is the Lithuanian beer Švyturys.

Jūros šventė is also an opportunity to enjoy local arts and crafts, as well as arts and crafts from all over Lithuania. Over three hundred craftsmen and artists come to the festival every year to showcase their works – there is no better opportunity to buy authentic souvenirs, and valuable art pieces to decorate your home.
