The 2019 tourism season has finally cranked up on Crete, and Heraklion Instagram shares reveal part of the amazing experiences being had by people from around the world. Here’s a look at some of the most shareable magic moments so far on incredible Crete.

First time visitors to Heraklion who wake up early will find a lesser mentioned wonder in the morning sunrise over Koules and the marina. This share shows just how remarkable this part of the city is. For those of us who live here, a walk along the breakwater is often the highlight of the day.

Built by the Republic of Venice in the early 16th century, Koules Fortress is one of Heraklion’s most iconic attractions. And as you can see, even on a stormy day Cretans and tourists witness the dynamics only the sea and ancient shores can provide. The city is never bored, on account of this synergy.

On the outskirts of Heraklion you will find one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Agia Pelagia used to be a lonely fishing village, and before that the site of the ancient port of Apollonia. Today, Cretan friends recall their weddings, their romantic experiences, and travelers share their picture postcard moments in this idyllic little town on the bay. We go every chance we get. Here, a traveler shares an amazing Capsis Elite Resort shares a fragment of the vision.

What kind of summer pictorial would this be without shares like this one from Kato Gouves by the wonderful photographer mk.pixelstorm (Minas)?

Just outside the city of Heraklion, there are worlds, within this unbelievable world known as Crete. In Malia, there are places and experiences that can burn into the consciousness beautiful imagery like this stay featured in the Instagram below. Crete is a deeply faceted paradise, with something for everyone.

Cutoffs at Kalypso Cretan Village Resort & Spa, what more is there to say? Surrounded by lush greenery on the beach of Karavos, the traditionally built Kalypso Cretan Village is a beautiful backdrop for exceptional experiences. And for sightseeing.

There’s nothing more meaningful for visitors to Heraklion than to experience life here as the locals live it. Each day I venture out to find the perfect sunset. And on Crete, even Santorini cannot compare with these precious end of day moments. The share below shows off what the end of another day looks like from downtown and the famous fish tavernas along the harbor.

I apologize for the shameless self-promotion here, but unless you’ve had a coffee, a bougatsa, and a bottle of amazing Nikos Gavalas wine at Heraklion’s most famous cafe, Phyllosophies, you have not lived as well as you could have. Seriously, I would be doing my readers a disservice if I did not recommend such Cretan excellence.

At night, a still peacefulness descends on Heraklion. Living here is an experience that is impossible to describe, but this picture offers a clue.

At the Minoan Theater outside Heraklion, actors dance a melodic reenactment of an ancient Minoan Spring ritual that is mesmerizing. The curators at this wonderful cultural center have meticulously chiseled out an experience no visitor will forget. Here a Minoan priestess dances to celebrate life.

Every day I ask myself the same question, “How lucky am I?” Right across the street from our office on Dedalou Street, the Capsis Astoria Hotel’s amazing restaurant plates wonderful culinary magic from its bistro. Within a stone’s throw of where we work there are 100 such amazing restaurants.
