Talk about mind a mind boggling descent, when 70 year old Ivan Trifonov (Трифонов) piloted his balloon into the depths of Croatia’s Mamet Cave Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth became more real.

One of Croatia’s most interesting places, the Velebit Mountain’s 675 foot deep subterranean wonder made for an Ivan Трифонов (Trifinov) for this record books. His specially designed lighter than air craft featured a special chair for the pilot, rather than the usual basket gondola. His journey, filmed from a variety of angles, was reportedly submitted to the Guinness Book of World records.

For Trifinov, the descent into one of the world’s deepest caves, will be his fifth world record if Guinness accepts the flight. Discovered back in 1968, Mamet Cave is a favorite among base jumpers and climbers.
