The five boutiques in this group; As Janelas Verdes, Heritage Av Liberdade Hotel,  Hotel Britania, Hotel Lisboa Plaza, and Solar Do Castelo are actually all within a stone’s throw of one another in central Lisbon. While the character of each is distinctive, the service and intimate charm are consistent, as is their convenience to all things cultural, happening, and sightseeing in one of the world’s greatest cities. We offer below a brief description and images of these wonderful little bits of Portuguese charm.

Solar Do Castelo

Located atop the Alfama district, this marvelous little place is situated between the walls of São Jorge Castle. The hotel is actually the only accommodation within the old medieval village. Built in the 18th century Building, the palace itself was built at former kitchens of the Alcáçovas Palace. Legendary and adrift in lore, this most serene place in Lisbon offers a uniquely pleasing and friendly atmosphere. The exclusive corners of the place are, in fact, only accessible by hotel guests.

Heritage Av Liberdade Hotel

Heritage Av Liberdade’s blue facade beckons all those traveling along Lisbon’s main thoroughfare, Avenida da Liberdade. Another 18th Century gem, the hotel’s latest re-designed by the noted Miguel Câncio Martins, being a striking bit of refurbishment. As much of the original beauty and history of the building having been lovingly preserved, the detailed result actually rivals the original.

Lovely veranda railings, the wooden main door, the shutters, the original ironwork, this hotel is a brilliant piece of Portuguese heritage you’ll never forget. As for the service and location, like all the other Heritage Lisbon ones, you can’t get much better than this.

Hotel Britania

Another hospitality wonder at the center of Lisbon’s historic city center, Hotel Britania affords a slightly different view on the city – an Art Deco on at that. As part of a project by notorious Portuguese architect Cassiano Branco, this home away from home is distinctively modernist in its charm. Located in a quiet alcove along Avenida da Liberdade, this is the only remaining hotel in town with that touch of glamour from back in the 40’s.

Elegant, charming, beautiful in the way colors contrast with the spirit of the place, this may be the hotel group’s best achievement at a memorable Lisbon stay. See for yourself below (and second from top).

Hotel Lisboa Plaza

Another boutique find along Avenida da Liberdade, Hotel Lisboa Plaza is pretty much at the heart of Lisbon. This hotel, circa the 1950’s, has always been at the center of the family owned chain’s operations. Informal, yet elegant, guests will find a wholly unique atmosphere here. Even with it’s comfortable and friendly appeal, this hotel reflects well on the ear of hustle and bustle of Lisbon back in the 1950’s. Convenience, revitalized splendor, and a harmony with the same impeccable service that has served the hotel these decades, you cannot miss booking this wonderful experience at least once.

As Janelas Verdes

Looking for some truly romantic memories from Lisbon? This small boutique hotel was once part of the 18th Century palace, and sits next to the National Ancient Art Museum. If there is a more charming spot in all Portugal, it would have to say a lot for couples – in that place where tradition and wonder meets the heart. Objects d’art to the family photos about the walls of this place speak of romance and inspiration of legends. It is said the house was the  inspiration for Ramalhete, from Eça de Queiróz’s Os Maias. As you can see by the view from your private terrace below, the view here is incomparable.

Sit an read a book, whistle under your breath with the songbirds wittering about in Spring in the city, catch people watching fever, then remember the centuries of Lisbon locals and visitors who enjoyed these same vantage points. Emotions run rampant for the romantic at heart in such places. Maybe places that without our articles, you would not know of. We encourage you to sample all Portugal has to offer, especially the warm and inviting, family owned businesses.

Experience Lisbon like this, once in a lifetime. Be sure and check out the Facebook presence of this marvelous chain.
