Greek Tourism Minister Theoharis Pushing Direct Athens-Boston Air Link

Visit Greece

Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis was in Boston this week as part of his trip to the US for the annual Capital Link Invest in Greece Forum held in New York. During his visit with Boston Logan International Airport and airline executives, Greece’s top tourism official discussed boosting flight frequency in view of rising interest from US travelers.

While in Boston, Theoharis also met with the Dean of the Boston University School of Hospitality Administration and Harvard professors as well as with executives from travel platforms TripAdvisor and Kayak. Minister Theoharis also met with airline executives from Canada as part of Greece’s efforts to expand into new markets year-round. With regard to the Boston-Greece flight possibility, Mr. Theoharis had this to say:

“Flights already operating are very profitable for all companies. Furthermore, there is a large number of passengers in Boston, but also at other US airports arriving in our country through airports mainly in Europe. Which means that there is a market available, or to put it differently, an existing customer base which would rather fly directly rather than make a stopover.”

Airlines already offer budget deals as low as $534 dollars from Boston to Athens, but creating a more solid and direct linkage would serve well Greece’s desire to attract more American travelers. Since taking office, one of the priorities of Minister Theoharis has been boosting the air connectivity between Greece and the United States to increase the arrivals of American visitors.
