Grand Hyatt to Open First Hotel in Greece

Grand Hyatt Hotel in Athens

Hyatt will open its first Grand Hyatt in Greece through a franchise agreement signed with Henderson Park and Hines for the Grand Hyatt Athens hotel.

The opening of the hotel – formerly the Athens Ledra which was bought for 33,05 million euros – is expected in the third quarter of 2018. It is the first hotel in Greece under the Grand Hyatt brand name and the third in Europe, the company said in an announcement released from Chicago, Illinois. Kokari Limited will be the manager of the hotel.

The 310-room 5-star luxury hotel will occupy the past premises of the former Ledra Marriott Hotel, which offered guests stunning Acropolis views. The property, which has hosted a score of Hollywood stars and politicians, has been an icon of Athens hospitality for decades.  The project marks “a significant milestone in Southeast Europe, an important growth market for Hyatt,” according to Hyatt’s VP for Eastern Europe,  Takuya Aoyama via a previous announcement.

The Hyatt name will be added to the thriving greater Athens hotel and resort sector, as the multinational already manages the Hyatt Regency Thessaloniki casino and resort in the northern Greece metropolis.
