Literally everyone we approach about contributing either images, stories, anything at all actually, has acquiesced in the most genuine and friendly fashion. Today we would like to announce still more good fortune and kindness from a truly gifted photographer, Eugen Mihai.
Welcome to Romania and the gripping photographic art of one of Romania’s finest photographic talents.
As anyone involved with Argophilia already knows, every aspect of this developing company is centered around rich content like the images our readers are beginning to enjoy. Romania’s own Eugen Mihai has now offered his portfolio of incomparable photographic art for your enjoyment. For any publisher out there experienced in the ways and means of professional photography, a gift like this so extraordinary. I want to introduce those unfamiliar with this wonderful talent and person, to the first photographer from Romania to have received the PPSA distinction.
A military photographer with the Romanian Ministry of Defense, in 2001 Eugen became an honorary member of the Photographic Associatino of Brazil in 2001. Since 2006 he has been an award winning member of the Photographic Society of America, where he has obtained 14 stars in varies divisions for his works, and where he became the first photographer from Romania to achieve the distinction PPSA (for proficiency in photography). 15 medals, 95 individual awards, special mentions in international competition, if Eugen Mihai’s work did not profess immediately his talent, then judges all over Europe and the world surely have. When Eugen is not busy with the military in Romania, he is engaged in collaborations with others in his field such as Bon Mariage , an exquisite Romanian wedding company that often requires his services.
Eugen was born in Bucharest in 1969 and has been worked as a Romanian military photographer since 1990. To date he has had over 10,000 images published in various magazines around the world. Additionally, he has had over 600 of his works accepted in international photographic art exhibitions conducted by FIAP and recognized by PSA. He has participated and dozens of group and individual exhibitions around Romania, and Europe. Needless to say we will be bringing you superb examples of his work in the months and years to come.
For those of you who know people from Romania, or many places in Eastern Europe, it is a bit difficult to separate the spirit of any individual from that of Romania itself. For Romanians in particular, the land, their country, is inextricably holding their souls. I know this is true for Eugen, you can feel it in his photographs without trying very hard. The treat for us at Argophilia is introducing readers, and travelers to these sorts of people and places.
Look at the refuge shack in the image of the Carpathians below. The gift Eugen has, the wonder of Romania, is in its reality. While everything may not have a place or this kind of warm – yet dire logic, much there actually does. Calling Romania and her people “simple” is wrong – this is a complex country, but “grounded” or “Earthy” is not too far from their truth.
From the unbelievable, and yes mysterious Carpathians, down to the Danube Delta (fisherman below) and to the shores of the Black Sea, Romania is simply breathtaking and full of surprises. In later reports we will try and reveal much of this through the art of Eugen Mihai and others. I assure you I have not even scratched the surface in this article, Eugen sent hundreds in just the first batch on Romania. This article is just an introduction to him and a slice of Romania and her people.
I will leave off for now, though enough cannot be said for the uncommon kindness and professionalism of this wonderful photographer. But as we revisit Romania again and again, as travel news and ideas carry us there, more beauty and wonder will emerge I assure you. Dracula to modern ski resorts, Roman legends and Heracles even, the world knows so little of this and other wondrous places. Interesting compositions of the photos. I would definitely like to see more from this artist. As for Romania - let's not forget that much, if not most, European history took place in Eastern Europe. The multiple religions and cultures that ruled vast tracts of Eastern Europe have all left their mark, resulting in a most attractive and varied playground for travellers and photographers alike.
Dig, thanks for your input, alot. Yes, Eastern Europe, by comparison, is where most of the action was. The Romans of course changed a bit of our focus, but the more I research these articles and our connections, the farther into this rich mosaic of culture and history I am drawn. You will see much more of Eugen's and other fabulous photographer's works for sure. And as you already know, wait until Argophilia the travel portal launches.
