Same Spot, Same Flames

A wildfire has ignited in the Prinos area, north of Oreino in the Ierapetra region. Fire crews were quickly alerted and rushed to the scene, yet reaching the active blaze proved anything but simple. The absence of forest roads has created logistical headaches for teams trying to control the flames.

To support ground crews, a firefighting helicopter has also been sent, with hopes of putting out the fire where vehicles simply can’t reach. The fire consumes primarily wild brush, an extremely flammable fuel source that burns rapidly.

Suspicion Looms Over Repeat Fires

Adding to the gravity of the situation is a chilling déjà vu. Only three months ago, there was a blaze in the same area. Neighbors in the nearby Oreino are understandably agitated, with the majority blaming foul play. Their growing fears belie these fires as just an unfortunate series of events, but instead as the result of human action.

Local authorities and fire brigades are not ruling out arson as they battle to contain the fire. Firemen are set on extinguishing the blaze as inquiries into its cause go on.

Taming the flames is ongoing, but the sounds of previous fires have created worry among locals and responders.
