The speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko made an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin last week asking for support for the restoration of Yalta to the status of children’s health resorts.
With children’s resorts in Russia in demand, the specialized and focused treatment and rehabilitation of children with disabilities is an ever growing need. Mrs. Matvienko told reporters after a meeting with Mr. Putin and the heads of upper and lower houses of the Russian Parliament:
“We have also prepared an appeal to the President on the restoration of Yalta in the status all-Russia children’s health resort and ask him to support this idea.”
Yevpatoria is a world renowned not only as a Crimean resort but also as one of the most ancient and beautiful cities in Europe. Unique for its golden sand beaches, clear seas, and especially the unique therapeutic mud and mineral waters, the city and surrounds is also noted for a collection of architectural and historic landmarks.
Only recently Yevpatoria re-emerged as a health destination by virtue of the opening of dozens of health centers, mud clinics, sanatoriums, and camps. In Soviet times the region was home to dozens of spas and sanatoriums. One of them in the nearby town of Saki, the Burdenko Sanatorium was the largest sanatorium in the former Soviet Union (400 beds) for patients with spinal cord injuries.
Sanatorium “Oren-Krym” and Yevpatoria sanatorium Severnyi are just two examples of health resorts currently in operation. The Institute of Dolphin Therapy is another therapeutic institution that achieved some fame for its breakthrough treatments for a number of diseases and dysfunctions.
