Three of the Municipality of Faistos’ best-known beaches will once again fly the internationally recognized Blue Flag this summer, reaffirming their place among Greece’s highest-quality coastal destinations.
The beaches at Kokkinos Pyrgos, Matala, and Kali Limenes have all retained the prestigious award, which is presented annually to beaches meeting strict international standards for water quality, environmental management, safety, cleanliness, accessibility, and visitor services.
The continued recognition reflects the municipality’s ongoing efforts to maintain clean, safe, and environmentally responsible beaches for both residents and visitors.
Mayor Grigoris Nikolidakis welcomed the announcement, describing the three Blue Flags as an important distinction that recognizes years of work to improve and protect Faistos’ coastline.
“Our beaches are one of the municipality’s greatest assets,” he said. “Maintaining these awards reflects our commitment to protecting the natural environment while providing high-quality services for residents and visitors alike.”
The Blue Flag is one of the world’s most respected eco-labels for beaches and marinas and is awarded only to sites that comply with rigorous environmental, educational, safety, and management criteria.
For visitors exploring southern Crete, the three award-winning beaches each offer a distinct experience, from the laid-back atmosphere of Kokkinos Pyrgos to the iconic caves and hippie heritage of Matala and the sheltered waters of Kali Limenes.
