The Exhibition “Cycladic Society 5,000 Years Ago” in Athens

The Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens is celebrating three decades of exhibiting excellence with the presentation of “Cycladic Society 5,000 Years Ago” open from early December 2016 to late March 2017. documents of the Early Cycladic period survive, this exhibition attempts to “read” in a simple and straightforward manner the social structure, activities, living environment, and, where possible, convictions and beliefs of the Cycladic islanders in the Early Bronze Age (3,200-2,000 BC) through their creations.

No written documents Early Cycladic life have survived the ages. This exhibition attempts to “read” the social structure, activities, living environment, and, where possible, convictions and beliefs of the Cycladic islanders in the Early Bronze Age (3,200-2,000 BC), through the magnificent works they created. Via a collaboration with the Hellenic Ministry of Culture (Antiquities Ephorate of the Cyclades, the National Archaeological Museum, Antiquities Ephorate of Athens), Mouseio Kykladikis Texnis exhibits 200 ancient artefacts from the collections of the Museum of Cycladic Art, the National Archaeological Museum, the Archaeological Museums of Naxos, Syros, Apeiranthos, and Paros, and the Paul and Alexandra Kanellopoulos Museum.

The exhibition “Cycladic Society 5,000 Years Ago” aims to fill the void or knowledge and understanding of the daily life and undertakings of the Cycladic islanders 5,000 ago!The exhibition is divided into five thematic sections:

  • Social nuclei
  • Activities
  • Social life
  • Social hierarchy
  • Life and death – Beliefs and cults
