Eurovision 2013 Semi Sends Russia and Denmark to Forefront

The first semi-final of Eurovision 2013 took place last night in Malmo ushering ten competitors to the finals. On Saturday an audience of 125 million is expected to vote for this year’s Eurovision song champion.

After the results of this first elimination round the contestants going through are:

Estonia’s  Birgit With Et Uus Saaks Alguse

Denmark: Emmelie de Forest With Only Teardrops

Russia’s  Dina Garipova With What If

Ukraine’s Zlata Ognevich With Gravity

The Netherlands’ Anouk With Birds

Lithuania’s Andrius Pojavis With Something

Belarus’  Alyona Lanskaya With Solayoh

Moldova’s  Aliona Moon With O Mie

Ireland’s Ryan Dolan With Only Love Survives

Belgium’s Roberto Bellarosa With Love Kills

Tomorrow night 17 more countries vie for their place among the finalists. Austria, Montenegro, Croatia, Cyprus (a favorite of ours)  Serbia and Slovenia were all eliminated last night. Curiously the draw for this first semi-final seemed to have a disproportionate number of favored contestants somehow. We look forward to Thursday’s competition to see who rounds out the contest for the ultimate title. Here’s a personal favorite preview.
