The festival, which continues in Strasbourg May 19th, will also reveal just how members of the EU Parliament work, debate, and make decisions that effect tens of millions. 2013 has been officially named the “European Year of Citizens” to this end too. While many citizens of the EU fail to consider their rights within the system, EU officials consider it their duty to inform those unaware of EU member state and EU proper laws pertaining to all citizens.

The European Year of Citizens aims to educate young and old as to the existence of these rights. The whole family is encouraged to attend these programs starting tomorrow in Luxembourg and Brussels. For those interested, the Brussels celebrations begin at 10.00 and end at 18.00, with concerts, brass bands, artistic events, fun activities, tours of the official buildings, quizzes, even debates with Members of the European Parliament.

As for the Luxembourg festigitiies, that all day event will feature music and folk traditions of various European Union countries on the Place de la Clairefontaine, from 11.30 to early evening. On May 19, the Strasbourg festivities are scheduled to begin at 9:3o in the morning with Members of the European Parliament and the European Ombudsman in the plenary chamber and meet the political groups and directorates-general of the European Parliament and other EU institutions.
