Where to Go this Summer: 3 Adventure Destinations in Europe

Does the thought of sitting on the beach for a week sound like a nightmare? Would you rather swap your bikini and sun cream for a jump suit and quad bike? If so then this article is for you! Adventure holidays are extremely popular, especially amongst young couples and families as they provide memories that last for a lifetime! Let’s take a look at 3 European destinations that are great for adventurers!

Scotland

Known as the ‘outdoor capital of Europe’, Scotland is not only one of the best adventure holiday destinations in Europe but in the world too. With such stunning mountains, lochs, glens and castles you will find no shortage of exhilaration in this neck of the woods. One very popular activity at the moment is canyoning. Yes, I do mean splashing through rivers, jumping off rocks into pools and navigating rapids with just you and a wet suit! The highland town of Fort William and its surrounding area has some wonderful waterfalls and rivers which make it ideal for this sort of activity. Whilst in bonny Scotland you could also try your hand at abseiling, rock climbing, zorbing, mountain biking and sea kayaking.  I’m tired just thinking about it all!

Slovakia

Want to visit one of the most mountainous countries in Europe? Love the exhilaration of winter sports? If you answered yes to these two questions then Slovakia is the perfect destination for you. The Tatra mountain range is simply stunning and offers some of the best skiing and snow activities in Europe. One activity that you must try is dog sledding with a local guide. Have a go at guiding your own sled through the beautiful white landscape and have fun getting to know the majestic dogs that take you on this magical ride. You could also have a go at snowboarding, sledging and swimming in a thermal pool. Brrrrr sounds chilly!

Turkey

Probably not a destination that immediately springs to mind for this kind of holiday but the Cappadocia region is beautiful and offers activities that are particularly family friendly. The region has a number of underground cities which are very exciting to explore. They were used as hideouts from the romans by early Christians. Try Kaymaklı underground city for a tour with a real difference! Hot air ballooning is extremely popular in this area too and is one of the best ways to see the landscape and all its monuments and ancient building ranges. You can also enjoy horse riding, river swimming and mountain biking if you have any energy left!
