The Hiking and Mountaineering Association Dromoi Zois (Roads of Life) heads east on Sunday, September 6, offering three ways to enjoy a day of nature, adventure, and swimming in Lasithi.
The first option is a hike to Agriomandra Beach, a beautiful and relatively secluded stretch of coastline the group describes as the northern coast’s answer to Agiofarago. The route includes a short swim at Agriomandra before continuing to nearby Tholos Beach for a longer dip.
The hike takes around three hours and has a difficulty level of 1, making it the gentlest of the three options.
For those who would rather skip the walking, there is a second option: head straight to the beach for a day of swimming.
The third option is for anyone ready to try something more adventurous: an introduction to canyoning with a descent through an accessible gorge using technical equipment.
The canyon is in the Lasithi area near the archaeological site of Azoria and an extraordinary ancient olive tree believed to be more than 3,000 years old. The organizers describe the route as suitable for beginners, provided participants do not fear heights or exposure.
And yes, all three options end with a swim, which sounds like the most important part of a Cretan summer adventure.

The group will depart from the Saturday farmers’ market area in Agia Anna, Heraklion, at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 6.
Because the activities take place in natural, non-urban environments, participants are advised to bring clothing and equipment appropriate for the terrain and season.
