Cyprus President Anastasiades Says Tourism Trend to Spiral Upwards

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades revealed his confidence that the growth rate of 4% for the county’s touristic economy would continue to rise in the coming months at an event held by the Association of Hotelier Managers (PASYDIXE) in Limassol.

At the meetup, Mr. Anastasiasdes heaped praise on leaders in the tourism industry and the private sector for Cyprus’ booming touristic trend. Statistics for January-October 2018 revealed 3.65 million total arrivals, a new record and an increase of 7.8% compared to the same period last year.

Anastasiades said that tourism is one of the most important sectors of our economy and assured that the government, with the implementation of a national strategy, aims at creating new competitive tourism services and products that will further promote Cyprus as a tourist destination.

The Cyprus chief executive also referred to certain incentives that were given for the upgrade of infrastructure and other projects such as the casino resort, marinas and other developments.

Furthermore the President said that the strategy aims at promoting conference, culture, health and sport tourism.

He also underlined the fact that the tourism sector is constantly changing and we must be able to meet the new trends and needs through further development.

In adjoining news, Cyprus recently gained ranking on the global prosperity index moving from 29th to 28th out of 149 countries according to the London-based Legatum Institute study. 

Personal freedom and human rights were shown to be Cyprus’ strongest suit, with the country climbing four places this year to reach ranking 24, followed by safety and security where Cyprus is positioned at 25.
