According to a recent AP report, Cyprus is engaging with Israeli authorities to promote the eastern Mediterranean as a prime cruise line holiday destination. Cyprus tourism minister Savvas Perdios told reporters last week his country also has had talks with Egypt to offer cruise packages to include Cypriot and Egyptian ports of call.

Minister Perdios added that the goal for Cyprus tourism is to rejuvenate cruise line interest. On his map of potential partners is Royal Caribbean after an absence of several years. Cruise ship arrivals this year have doubled to 60 from a year ago and are expected to increase to 100 next year.

Perdios pointed out that attracting world-class cruise line operators would open a new tourist market, such as travelers from the U.S., Latin America and China, that Cyprus hadn’t previously accessed.
