Coming This Fall in Fabulous Rethymno: Sports and More Sports

Go Pro Stadium

Coming up in Rethymno, two major athletic events promise participants, locals, and visitors to the region a “one of” sports opportunity. The Isoman Equalized Triathalon and the 2019 Socca World Cup make September and October in Rethymno a unique destination.

Scheduled for the last weekend of September (27-29 September) the Isoman Equalized Triathalon is an amazing three-day sports and entertainment event unlike any other in Greece. The race, which includes a Half Olympic Distance Triathlon (Swimming 750m, Bike 20km, Run 5km), will also present a full program of sports and recreational activities for all ages and levels of athletes. The teaser video by ISOMAN presented by G – TRIMORE M.T. Rethymno 2019 below offers a preview.

Of special note are the Kids ISOMAN presented by G, Kids Lazer Run, Cycling speed, and much more. Furthermore, the stated goal of these events is to put Rethymno on the map of Multisports, belonging to the TOUR of TRIMORE.

Then, coming October 12th to 20th, Rethymno will host the 2019 Socca World Cup at the specially built Socca Stadium on the main seafront. Situated directly on the beach and overlooking the ocean, this sporting event is set in an idyllic location to welcome 32 countries battling for Germany’s Socca Federation crown. Thanos Papadopoulos, CEO of ISF offered this on the announcement Rethymno was selected as host:

2019 Socca World Cup

“This is a dream come true for me. I hosted a European tournament on the same beach in 2013 but this will be bigger and better by far. It is going to take something of a miracle of construction to put the stadium on the beach, but we have the team in place to do it, as we proved in Lisbon. A top ranking sporting event, in one of the great tourist destinations in the world, and supported by the Cretan Government, there is nothing more I could have asked for.”

World Champions Germany was on Crete back in 2013 and edged out Greece by penalties in a small-sided football showdown to remember. Now, with a larger stadium, bigger crowds, more teams, and an altogether more supreme experience, Crete 2019 will be a stunning event for Rethymno and all of Crete.
