China's Great Wall

The “Charming Beijing” promotion event, kicked off on Monday at the Promenada Mall in northern Bucharest, the capital of Romania. The event headlined officials from both China and Romania bent on informing Romanians about China.

“Beijing wants to serve as a window. Through this window, people in Romania can see more about Beijing and China,” said Zhao Li, Chinese cultural counselor in Romania, at the opening ceremony.

Iulia Dangulea, an counsellor from Romania’s Ministry of Tourism, also said on the occasion that “Romania is committed to strengthening cooperation with China and attaches great importance to developing relations with China in various fields.”

According to her, there is a lot of space for promoting tourism between Romania and China, and the Belt and Road Initiative can be a way of boosting tourism in both countries.

In a symbolic gesture, officials from the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development, the Romanian Ministry of Tourism and the Chinese Embassy cut a ribbon, meaning the event is open to the public.

During the promotion event, visitors can watch a documentary film about Beijing and enjoy the splendid view of the Chinese capital city, its buildings and beautiful landmarks, including the Great Wall.

People can also enjoy the Beijing tourism photo exhibition, see Chinese calligraphy and take pictures dressed in traditional Chinese costumes. Besides, they can taste some of the best Chinese traditional foods.

Official statistics showed that in 2017 over 33,000 Chinese tourists came to Romania, an increase of more than 30 percent over the previous year. In the same year, 12,000 Romanians visited China.
