Paphos to Be the Stage for Candlelit Christmas Carols

A Candlelit Christmas Carols concert will take place next Thursday, December 22, at Paphos Harbor in Cyprus. The concert is already a local tradition and has attracted over 600 people last year.

The Candlelit Christmas Carols concert takes place at Kato Paphos from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm local time. While last year the event attracted a little over 600 people, 2016 expects more participants. The concert is already a local tradition and gains popularity every year.

Well-known Wales soprano Judith Evans Davies takes to the stage on Thursday to sing some of the most beautiful Christmas carols in front of an enchanted audience.

“It’s a wonderful and uplifting experience and great to see hundreds of happy faces, holding candles and singing,” the soprano said, cited by Cyprus Mail.

While attending the concert is free for all, proceeds from sales of CDs with Christmas carols available on the site will be donated to the Matthew 25 Project by Paphos Christian Fellowship International. It is not the first time Davies dedicates her voice to local charities. She is quite known for her work in Cyprus. In 2010 she recorded a charity CD to benefit people with cancer.

Participants can purchase candles from a stand at the concert site, opposite the Kato Paphos bus station by the sea, or they can always bring their own candles. Children will enjoy sweets and chocolates after the concert.

The Candlelit Christmas Carols concert at Kato Paphos is one of several Christmas events taking place all over Cyprus. Look for Byzantine concerts in the main churches at your destination. In Paphos, see the agenda of cultural center Technopolis 20 , which schedules a variety of thematic concerts and shows, including a musical tribute to the “rembetiko” Greek song of the 1930s and 1940s featuring Sotiris Karageorgis, Stelios Cacoyannis, and Evagoras Karageorgis on Friday, December 23rd and Wednesday, December 28th. For little children, “The Nutcracker” concert on Thursday, December 29th at 3:00 pm local time is followed by a workshop where kids can dance, act, sing, and create works of art.
