Bulgaria Welcomed One Million Greeks in 2017

Bulgaria, one of the favored destinations for Greek tourists, saw over one million arrivals from Greece in between January and November 2017. According to news from Sofia’s news agency Novinite, growth over the same period of the previous year was over 8%. Also, the number of Bulgarians who visited Greece during this period was over 1,250,000.

Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelova told attendees at a working meeting with her Greek counterpart, Elena Kuntura of the new development during a conversation at the largest tourism fair in Spain – FITUR in Madrid. Also during the workshop, the two discussed the possibility of joint tourism projects. Ms. Angelova was quoted as saying:

“General products can be created for the sector in the field of cultural, historical, wellness, festival, religious and other types of tourism.”

Another topic of the conversation was the exchange of experience and good practices in advertising and marketing to stimulate tourism in both countries. The participation of Bulgaria and Greece in international fairs, seminars, exhibitions and conferences was also discussed at the meeting.

Minister Angelkova also focused on the realization of more business initiatives in tourism. Bulgaria has established a Map of Investment Projects, which the Ministry of Tourism actively promotes to foreign potential depositors in the sector. ”Our main goal is to turn the country into a year-round tourist destination that offers a quality and competitive product”, she added.

In other news from Bulgaria’s tourism ministry, the news overall growth reached 7.3% comes as the ministry identified the types of tourists in each segment, such as  skiers in Bansko and Borovets, who flooded resorts there in 2017.
