Bulgaria’s Logo to be Remodelled

It seems that the scandal surrounding brand Bulgaria is about to come to an end as a new logo will be created, Novinite.com reports. Brand Bulgaria was launched at the beginning of 2013 with the intention to be used starting fall 2013 in all marketing materials. However, in February “Brand Bulgaria” ended in the Prosecutor’s office for allegations of conflict of interest. As if that was not enough, yesterday there was an article showing that the country’s new logo and slogan resemble those of Kyrgyzstan’s. This country released its identity elements four months ago, therefore it has the advantage of being the first.

Even if so far the opinions are divided and not everyone thinks the logos look alike – for instance Aneliya Genova, Director of the Marketing, Advertising, and Tourism Information Directorate at the Bulgarian Ministry of Economy, Energy, and Tourism, doesn’t consider the logos to be similar – a new logo will be created for Bulgaria.

Bulgarian Economy Minister Delyan Dobrev said that the logo will be refashioned in order to meet the public expectations and to be liked by the people. The promotional information regarding the new logo will be translated into 10 languages, added Aneliya Genova.

“I hope that the refashioning of Bulgaria’s tourism logo is already under way because I asked for that about 10 days ago,” Dobrev added.

The Minister also explained that the team who won the bid for Brand Bulgaria did its job in providing the tasks included in the contract. He also said that if the remodeled logo would not be one Bulgaria would be proud of, he will find a way “to correct the sum paid for this product.”

Prof. Stoyan Zhelev, the person in charge of creating Bulgaria’s new logo, said that 2 820 people were queried in regards to the logo and they all said they liked it. Among the participants in this international poll were 120 respondents from China and 100 international tour operators.
