Romania’s Bigar Waterfall, also known as “the Miracle of the Minis Gorge”, is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in all Europe. This iconic waterfall only rises to 8 meters in height, but being fed by underground spring waters, it’s the seemingly mysterious flow and the spectacular visual effect of the falls, that makes them so special.

What’s so interesting about the Waterfall, is how they appear to free fall out of nowhere. As you can see from the images, the mossy green textures mix visually with the perception of unsupported structure, to form a striking and stunning picture in the visitor’s eyes.
Situated in one of Romania’s most remote and beautiful regions, Banat, these fulls appear to be free hanging over the river, in a very picturesque location in the valley. Visitors can reach the falls via the bridge you see below. In between the towns of Oravita and Bozovici, 453 kilometers southwest of Romania’s capital, Bucharest, this region also holds many other natural and historic wonders.

Caraș-Severin County is home to many more serene sights, such as; the Minis river valley pools, Buhui Lake the cave of the same name. Other sights also include; Semenic National Park, Domogled National park, as well as the Baile Herculane Spa, the oldest and most famous spa in Romania.
This region, albeit almost unknown to those outside Romania, is rich with lush forest territory and amazing natural wonders. The perfect symbolization is the Bigar waterfall and its awe inspiring beauty. You’ll also want to visit the world famous Iron Gates of the Danube (below) while visiting this area of Romania.
