Let’s face it, there’s not more sinking feeling than to be far away from home, on the go, and unable to go at all for being under the weather. “Don’t drink the water” is a nice cliche as a preventative for dysentary, but the actual affliction is far worse and scarier even, without the comforting feeling of knowing there’s a good doc around the corner. Even knowing there is not one is better than struggling to discover it.

This is where BetterDoctor comes in. The developers just launched their first iOS based app last week, enabling to an extent, people on the go to find any sort of medical professional they might need while traveling. Doctor, dentist, optometrist, even specialist are at user’s fingertips – and based on digital reviews they have received via the web, categorized so you the user can make better choices. Ostensibly, at least.

The free app actually offers stupendous potential as an innovative and business entity. Launched before Summer last year across some 32,000 cities in the US, BetterDoctor is making great strides to gain credibility and trust, as well as the data needed in the background to bolster both. Readers can learn more about the startup visiting their Crunchbase profile here. You may also want to read the in depth report from Betakit on the startup here, or follow the links and try the app yourself. The video below with one of the Co-founders, Ari Tulla, explains the app and how it works.

Other apps are available to help travelers in a similar way. These include: Orca Health’s Find a Specialist, ZocDoc, and a few others.
