Azerbaijan Picked “Best Excursion Tourism Destination”

Azerbaijan has won the “Best Excursion Destination” award from the National Geographic Traveler Awards 2019 held in Moscow on November 28.

According to the country’s tourism ministry, some 450,000 plus people participated in the online voting via the nat-geo.ru website. In the category of best excursion destination, Azerbaijan beat out Italy and the U.K.

The voting held from June 29 to October 31 included some 24 nominations for the most popular types of tourism and the best tourism destinations. Tourism products and tourism destinations of more than 50 countries were able to win the top awards.

Organized by the National Geographic Traveler magazine in Moscow, the 9th annual National Geographic Traveler Awards showcases the best travel destinations and encourages the creation of new travel destinations.

Azerbaijan is a fascinating mix of Europe and Asia, a perennial top destination for many tourists. Over the last decade, foreign visits to Azerbaijan for tourism has significantly increased. Travelers are attracted to the country’s high-quality hospitality and the rich excursions possible.

Azerbaijan is currently in 39th place among 148 countries in terms of global competitiveness in tourism. As many as 2.68 million tourists visited Azerbaijan in January-October 2019. Part of the reason for these increases is the simplified visa regime put in place.

The country is becoming famous not only for excursions and sightseeing but for health, environmental, cultural, social and other forms of alternative tourism value.
